Any thick, creamy substance is a popular choice in the world of wam. Non-dairy whipped topping, however, is deceptive: It's oil-based, and has a lot of air whipped into it. When it warms with your body heat, the air escapes and the topping turns back into oil.

Whipped topping is a good alternative to real cream because there is less chance of a rancid smell being left on your skin after your wam. Also, it tends to be cheaper to buy. However, since it is oil-based, clothing messed with whipped topping should never be placed in a clothes dryer to avoid the risk of fire.

For a longer lasting, less "melty" option, mix in a little yogurt with the Cool Whip. Just any off the shelf yogurt brand. Just about a quarter of a cup of yogurt folded into the Cool Whip makes it stabilize (not sure what the chemical reaction is called). The mixture make great pies and covers really well.
